Ranulph Dacre

Arrived: 1820
Country of origin: England
Area in New Zealand: Mercury Bay, Mangonui, Mahurangi

Details: The book, 'In the Shadows of Moehau' mentions that Ranulph was running a trading post at Cabbage Bay in the 1830's. That shipping records show him to be almost a 'shipping magnate' in those days and had voyages into the South Polar regions.

Ranulph was more a frequent visitor to New Zealand, not settling down here until quite late, 1859 despite having extensive interests in the area. I've included him because he comes up frequently in the various history sites and resources. His sons Henry and Life Septimus farmed at Weiti, south of Orewa. The Dacre's moved to England in 1878 and died there.
