25 April 1833 The Sydney Herald Messrs Mair and Powditch have formed an establishment at the Bay of Islands, NZ and have supplied several vessels with spars etc this season.
Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser 25th May 1839. We have received the following information from our correspondent at the Bay of Islands; Mr Moir (sic) of Kororarika has laid a vessel down, 150 tons, which he intends for a whaler.
Mr Gilbert Mair died on the 16th May 1857 at Whangarei. He is mentioned in the The Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser, 20th Jan 1827 as being Master of the schooner 'Herald'. He was appointed a Magistrate 14th April 1840 in the same newspaper.
Mrs Elizabeth Mair died on 12th November 1870 at their home called Deveron, Whangarei.

Son William Gilbert Mair Major, born at Te Wahapu, Bay of Islands, on 20 November 1832 married Janet Cathcart Black, of Sydney, on 15 May 1872.
He served 50 years as a soldier and public servant. Died 8 July 1912
Major Mair died at Waiotapu this morning. The deceased gentleman was one of the best known Maori scholars in New Zealand. He was brought up in the Dominion, and went through the Maori War, retiring with the rank of major. For many years he was a Judge of the Native Land Court. About three years ago he left the service, and went to live with his brother, Captain Gilbert Mair, also an ex- Judge of the Native Land Court, who is farming at Waiotapu, in the thermal district. The late Lady Buller, wife of Sir Walter Buller, was their sister.
