Details: Oct 25th 1883, the 'Star' mentions John Walker aged 92, a Waterloo veteran who had died at Mount Eden goal to which he had been committed for vagrancy. He was born in India in 1791 and was consequently one of the first English-born subjects of the British Crown in India. He was in the colony in 1840 but since the article doesn't say when he arrived here, I've put him down as arriving at 1839. He could have been here much earlier.
