Edward Costley

Arrived: 1838
Country of origin:
Area in New Zealand: Auckland
Source: Paperspast

Details: Such a benefactor of Auckland. He was a batchelor and a very quiet man who did well and honorably in land transactions, lived in lodgings and left a considerable legacy for Auckland's citizens. At his death in 1883, he left money for the library, hospital and the Auckland Institute, and these are legacies I can find easily, there could be more. He went more often by the name 'Costello'. He thought he had no relatives but after his death a Mr Costley in Christchurch thought he might be a long lost brother.
