Details: Barnet Burns was an Englishman, probably from Liverpool. He first arrived in New Zealand in 1830. He returned in 1831 as a trader (for Harris), at Mahia. He married Amotawa and they had a son Hori Waiti. Burns left New Zealand in 1834, he was heavily tattooed and became a showman in England where he was seen by William Edwards. His son was adopted by the Urungawera people and taken to Tokomaru Bay.
