Details: Manuel was a Spaniard born in America (Charlie the Spaniard or Manuera). He was one of the earliest arrivals and had deserted from an American whaler. Hi principle wife was Tapitu and their daughter married a Portuguese whaler named Lima.

In the 'Return of Europeans in Occupation of Native Lands' Emanuel began his occupation of Ngatiporou land on which his house stood for 12pd per year. He had four males and four females in his household and was a trader with 4 horses.
