Dr. Pradip Kumar Tarafdar

Assistant Professor
Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata

Dr. Tarafdar studied BSc at Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira, Belur and had special affection to Organic Chemistry from BSc. He passed MSc at University of Calcutta with the specialization in Organic Chemistry. Later, he was inclined to biological processes and pursued PhD at School of Chemistry, University of Hyderabad under the supervision of Prof. Musti J. Swamy. His doctoral project deals with the synthesis of bio-active lipids, surfactants and their nano-structure formation. During postdoctoral research, he worked with Prof. Barry Lentz (former President, Biophysical Society) at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA and as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow with Prof. Reinhard Jahn at Max-Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, Göttingen, Germany. These studies range from synthesis of small molecules, bio-active lipids, membrane preparation, to interaction of membrane and proteins. He envision to utilize these training (synthetic chemistry and biophysical chemistry) in material science and to unravel biological mystery.
