What is Data Mining (or Big Data)? It is a study about extracting knowledge from data. Data is everywhere, heterogeneous, and continuously increasing. For example, rapidly growing are Web data on the Internet, commercial data warehouses, biological data, scientific data. Rich data but poor information is a common phenomenon in the real world. Big Data is chosen as the top 10 crucial technology that would change the world!
Data Mining (or Big Data) is an interdisciplinary field that overlaps databases, machine learning, statistics, algorithms, pattern recognition, computer vision, natural language processing, multimedia, bioinformatics.
Our current research interests reside in Big Data Analytics and Scalable Machine Learning, Recommender System and Prediction, Text Mining and Social Network Analysis, Deep Learning and Multimedia Analysis, and Biomedical Informatics.
