The Portal (The Valley Refuge Association) is a not-for-profit charity committed to ending youth homelessness through the outreach of The Portal Youth Centre. The Portal Youth Centre acts as a resource centre to youth at risk of homelessness. The Centre staff and volunteers work to prevent and respond to youth who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. The youth served by the Portal and its outreach program live between Windsor and Annapolis Royal.  Priority focus for youth outreach is youth, 16- 19 years. Prevention is the emphasis for youth 12- 15 years of age. Prevention programs include: Rec Buddies, Family connect and RE-connect, Outdoor Discovery, and One on One support. Other services offered to youth 16- 21 years of age include:

· Drop in - "intentional hanging out”                   
· Helping youth & families deal with a crisis
· Someone to talk to: supportive counseling    
· Programs/workshops for resiliency 
· Mentoring: youth/ adult partnership               
· Advocacy: Someone to help youth speak up
· Supporting families in transition
· Connection to transitional housing
