Message to Families

Dear Bellingham Football & Cheer Families:

We are looking forward to kicking off the 2016 season with some exciting changes. As an organization we have made the decision to move from Pop Warner to American Youth Football and Cheer (AYFC). What does this mean to our program?

For the most part this will be a seamless change to our families and our approach to teaching the game of football and cheer will not change. Our philosophy will always be that we want to put our kids in the best scenario possible to become the best student-athletes they can be, while having fun learning and enjoying the sport of football/cheer. We believe by moving to AYFC we will continue to further enhance the experience that these kids are having for a number of reasons.

Some of the subtle and new changes that you will see this fall are as follows:

Teams are now set up based on grade (instead of age and weight)

Players are now matched up against players their own age and maturity level. It’s an all-inclusive approach by not excluding participants based on weight and it gives players a sense of camaraderie per grade level similar to that of the high school and most other youth sports.

We hope to field 6 teams based on registration that will be formed as follows, however, combining teams is also an option.

2nd/3rd Grade

4th Grade

5th Grade

6th Grade

7th Grade

8th Grade

Games will be closer

Our schedule will consist of towns/programs that are closer in proximity, (Holliston, Hopkinton, Dover- Sherborn, Medway, Wayland, etc.), and/or towns we commonly play in most other youth sports and at the high school level. Sunday game times will be similar to our Pop Warner schedule as far as start times go (The first game of the regular schedule will be Labor Day weekend.).

No more Friday practices

Well, this is unrelated to the AYFC change but the board did approve a new August practice schedule! Practices will be Mon-Thurs. from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in August and once school starts it will be Tues, Wed and Thurs. from 6 to 8 p.m.

We are extremely excited for this move and truly feel it is in the best interest of all of our families in the program. We have done extensive research as a board and are very excited to work with the new league and surrounding towns for a great season in 2016.
