SCARA is Twenty years old, still going strong and registering twenty new UK based members in the last year. Both represent a magnificent achievement and so a very big thank you to all who have attended a SCARA event this year. Your interest and support are very much appreciated making our society as vibrant and relevant today as when it started. Plans are already underway for 2026.
This year saw six SCARA events outside of London and again all pretty well attended. The reason for these regional events being that a number of members found travelling to London was in some cases not as easy as in the past, and these ‘local’ events offered the opportunity to catch up with former friends and colleagues more easily. Our main event continues to be the SCARA annual London lunch held again this year at the popular ISH venue in Portland Place. One hundred booked of which a small number didn’t make it on the day. It was a lively and convivial lunch amongst friends some of whom had known each other for over 40 years and some perhaps even longer. I left in 1997 and went onto work for three substantial organisations and not one of these has anything like a SCARA in order to keep old friends in touch – SCARA is a remarkable group!
To celebrate the 20th anniversary your committee decided we should enjoy a birthday cake. This was novel and we think appreciated. The cake, presented in a special commemorated cake box celebrating Lines that make up SCARA and our birthday. For those that could not attend check out the website for the full report.

Regional events in 2026 will again be all over the country; Stanford-le-Hope in Essex, the Golf Day in Brentwood on 12 May 2026, Southampton Curry lunch on April 23rd with events in Liverpool in the summer and Birmingham in the Autumn.
However, no time like the present to get the New Year started than in Leeds on Sunday February 1st 2026. Nigel Chew has offered me the following advert for this event which is open to all SCARA members.
He says; “Leeds, Leeds, Leeds marching on together! The event where else …. than in a box, is at a venue called THE BOX, 15 Infirmary Street in Leeds city centre from 12 noon. He / we would love to see as many familiar faces as possible from an era of our careers that remains indelibly etched in our lives. It would be wonderful to see as many of you as possible to recall very happy times we shared together. Anyone wishing to attend please just email Gerard Kellegher at...“ [emails sent to ponlheritage@gmail.com will be forwarded to Gerard].
So, in closing I’d like to wish all SCARA members families and friends a very Happy Christmas and all the very best for 2026.
David Cross
