The rule

It is written:

"Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side. And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head." (Matthew 8:18-20)

What Jesus told the scribe was that there is no way we can get hold of Christ. The Son of Man has no place to rest his head, in other words there is no way we can figure out His values.

The passage is quite important in that respect we are reminded there is absolutely no encouragement in the Bible to be Jesus alike. We should do the same as Jesus by taking up our crosses and follow Him, and we will be like Jesus if we are branches of the vine He is, but there are no specific values of Christ to commit to. There are only the commandments of The Law. We are not justified by acting in accordance to any value, and false prophets and priests are very good at formulating such, but we are justified by faith. Acting by faith means thinking ahead, worrying about the Son (of ours) in all our work. That is to pay justice to The Son.

It is written:

«For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.» (John 3:16)

Why do we believe in Christ? What is it that makes us think Jesus is the Christ – the anointed one? That is the question. We do not want to make an idol of Jesus. So let us see what the Bible says. In Romans 9:33 it says: "As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed." And so the question is, why is Jesus a stumblingstone and a rock of offence? The answer is: He went to the cross. And before doing so He said (Matthew 10:38) "And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me." And He said (Matthew 16:24): "Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me." That is the nature we should worship. That is the being we should attain. That quality is love.
