Welcome to the Portage Orchestras!  Portage Orchestra Parents (POPs) is a booster group that provides support to the Portage Public Schools Orchestra programs.  Each of you who has a student in the orchestra program is automatically a member of POPs.  Please help support us and keep Portage a leader in string education in Southwest Michigan.  Our organization is run by committee and is looking for parents and members of the community take part.  Below is a list of some of our activities:

*Fall String Clinic
We host an MSBOA (Michigan Band and Orchestra Association) String Clinic at West Middle School each October. The clinic hosts over one hundred 7th and 8th grade string students from West Michigan.  The students form three orchestras (Orchestra A, Orchestra B, Orchestra C) and each has a special guest conductor and sectional coach.

*Program support
POPs continues to contribute towards a strong program districtwide by offering workshops, sheet music and instrument purchases and section coaches

*Spring Festival
POPs provides support for the high schools and middle schools to attend the MSBOA festival in March.

Both high schools perform in uniforms.  POPs provides and maintains this formal concert attire.

*Summer music and private lesson scholarships
High school and middle school orchestra students can apply for these scholarships to attend a summer music experience. Please inquire in April for applications.
