a Missoula Children’s Theatre Musical

for young actors in grades 1 through 12

Conceived and Written by Michael McGill

Music and Lyrics by Michael McGill

When Captain Hook sends his right-hand man, Smee, on a quest to capture Peter Pan, it’s seemingly business as usual… at first. Little does Hook realize what fantastic adventures await him and his pirate posse in their search for the elusive Peter Pan. Mistaken identities, ever-morphing clouds, a classy crocodile, some very lost boys, and a fickle shadow all add to the mayhem. Meanwhile, Mr. and Mrs. Darling embark on a quest of their own and find themselves trekking everywhere from Hawaii to the North Pole in search of their three missing children. With help from the earth-friendly Neverlanders, exotic Neverland creatures, and faithful Tinker Bell, the Darling children are found, disputes are ultimately resolved, and everyone – including Captain Hook – finds a place where they truly belong.

The Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT) returns to partner with PLAY Conservatory for a week-long residency that culminates in one-act musical.  MCT has been touring for more than 40 years.  As revealed in the documentary film “The Little Red Truck,” MCT brings magic to nearly 1,200 communities in all 50 states, 3 Canadian Territories and 5 provinces and 16 countries, annually.  Their mission is the development of life skills in children through participation in the performing arts.

Missoula Children's Theatre sends in two professional tour actor/directors who bring with them the scripts, scenery, costumes, props, and make-up — almost everything it takes to put on a one-act musical. We provide the rest — the young actors (and assistant directors) and the adult helpers.

Program Features
Auditions:  Two professional MCT Tour Actor/Directors run the auditions of our pre-registered students in a friendly 2-hour process.  Occurs on the first day of camp.

Intensive Rehearsals:  Characterization, blocking, vocals, and choreography are learned, for 4½ hours each afternoon, Monday through Friday.

Drama Infusion:  When actors are not rehearsing with MCT artists, they are working with a Teaching Artist from PLAY Conservatory.

Enrichment Workshops:  MCT Tour Actor/Directors may offer additional Drama workshops to our community (times and topics to be announced).

Two Shows:  The residency week culminates with two public performances starring our students, complete with professionally designed scenery and costumes.
Dates & Times
Call:  Mon-Fri, 1:00pm-5:30pm; July 8-13

Attendance is mandatory at all calls.

All auditions, rehearsals, construction, meetings and performances will take place at Stapleton Elementary School, 3100 Stapleton Ave NE, in Rio Rancho.
The tuition fee is $200. Tuition includes these materials: script, pencil, company T-shirt, and a company photo.
The actual cost of this program is more than $400 per student.  We are able to charge less for this experience thanks to grant funding and donations from individuals and businesses.  Any additional amount that a parent or guardian wants to donate is always welcome. Parents are also encouraged to recruit local businesses to sponsor this project through business card ads in our playbill.

A student’s tuition fee may be subsidized entirely or in part by a scholarship.  It's our vision to make our programs accessible to every student who wants to participate, regardless of ability to pay.  To apply for scholarship, email the producers. PLAY Conservatory will do everything possible to help parents afford this opportunity for their kids.

Photography: Parents will be able to purchase a digital file of their child’s professional headshot.
Video: Parents will be able to purchase a DVD of a video of the performance, for at-home viewing.

Admission to each show costs $10 (teens and adults). Free for children 12 and under.
Tickets are sold in advance to family and friends, to avoid both online ticketing fees and standing in line at the box office on performance days.

Advance registration is available online.  DEADLINE EXTENDED: Please register by June 21.

Scroll down for online registration.

Pay by check made payable to PLAY Conservatory; credit cards are accepted, too, with a processing fee.
Each student will also have completed hard copy enrollment forms that must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Auditions for Actors will take place on the first day of rehearsals, Monday, July 8.

To prepare, wear clothing that permits full movement. There is nothing to learn in advance. When you audition, smile, use your full voice and whole body, be playful, and be kind to others.

During the audition, as many as four Assistant Directors (ADs), ages 10 and older, may be selected to help teach and direct the show early in the week as well as take on technical responsibilities at performance time. Their logistical help and creative ideas are a vital part of the process. Tuition is waived for Assistant Directors.
