Why Galilee?  Why now?
The Kayole-
Soweto slums surrounding the school are deplorable and living conditions remain bleak. The area is densely populated and the majority of people earn less than $1 a day. Diseases like typhoid fever, diarrhea and malaria strike. Fanuel, the school director, reports that there are still no sewer lines so sanitation consists of unsanitary pit latrines. Garbage abounds. Piped water is available only two days a week, and many families must purchase it at stand points. There is still no electricity to the majority of the people. There are so many children living in extreme poverty in the world – we have selected Galilee Primary, Waddington High and the Holly House orphanages as our focus. Without our continued support and child sponsorships, the school would not be able to move forward to provide for these precious children’s needs.
What our sponsors are saying about sponsoring through Plant-a-Book International...

"This is my all-time favorite charity, helping kids dig their way out of poverty through education. The children helped and sponsored through this organization live in the worst of the worst slums of Nairobi, Kenya. Without education, the
cycle will undoubtedly perpetuate itself to the next generation. What I like best about this organization is the "hands on" approach as we communicate with our kids, with the director of the school and with the board of directors of the organization. Through pictures, communication with staff and also accounts of various people visiting the school, w
e can know for certain that our dollars are being used appropriately and for the benefit of the kids and the school." ~ Sponsor J.L.

"This is an amazing organization. I have donated with them for over5 years and what they have been able to accomplish without any corporate backers, celebrities, or wealthy financial donors is mind boggling. They are a completely volunteer organization, yet they have raised the funds to rebuild a primary school, completely build a brand new high school and orphanage in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya. In addition they have brought water, electricity, food, textbooks and a sense of hope to an area that most people have abandoned and forgotten. They have united people around the world and given thousands of children a chance to break the cycle of property, leave the slums and change their future." ~ Sponsor J.S.

"My family and I have been sponsoring one child at a time, for five years. I periodically meet with one of the staff volunteers, so am more than confident in supporting this non/profit.The interactive aspect is one of the keys to the success of this program, (in terms of our relationships with our students and the on-going dialogue between sponsors, volunteer staff and the program's director, Fanuel). It's what helps keep my family involved and active in the life of the children we sponsor...  A miraculous amount of progress at the schools and orphanage has taken place."  ~ Sponsor C.R.
