Passing of James Scott, Former CAP member of TX-133

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Scott, a former member of Irving CS squadron. James had recently completed his pilot training up to the level of a commercial rating with multi and complex additions. He was working as a pilot professionally living his dream. He was laid to rest today and will be greatly missed.

"Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds -and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of -wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence.
Hovering there I've chased the shouting wind along
and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace,
where never lark, or even eagle, flew;
and, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
the high untrespassed sanctity of space,
put out my hand and touched the face of God."

Gen Mark A. Welsh announced today the official recognition of the Civil Air Patrol as the fourth member of the Air Force Total Force team. The official recognition reflects CAP’s key and continuing contributions to the Air Force mission working with the Active, Guard and Reserve components to provide the Air Force with a full spectrum of distinct and complementary capabilities. The 58,000 CAP members fly more than 100,000 flight hours per year in support of this mission, providing emergency services, aerospace education, and cadet programs for youth 12-20 years old, and will now be able to proudly call themselves Airmen while supporting the Air Force mission. Learn more about what this change means for CAP volunteers by watching the video from our national commander, Maj Gen Joe Vazquez.
