MaPP High School Challenge '17 at Lamar University

The MaPP High School Challenge ’17 is a team-based mathematical puzzle competition for high school students held at multiple college campuses across the country. Unlike most math competitions, HSC17 pulls mathematical content from various areas unrepresented in the usual secondary curriculum, such as design theory, game theory, or topology. For more information, please visit http://mappmath.org

Date:  April 8, 2017

Location: Lamar University

Please register each team you wish to bring to MaPP HSC17 at Lamar University. Space is limited to two teams per school; additional teams require approval. Early registration is strongly encouraged, so that we can provide lunch and a shirt for each student and teacher/chaperone. Each team can have up to 8 members, and must have at least 5 members. A teacher chaperone is also required for each team, but the chaperone cannot assist the team in the competition. We would love to have teams representing each of your schools this year!

What follows is a tentative schedule for the event, due to take place on Saturday, April 8:

• 9:45am: Registration
• 10:15am: Orientation
• 10:30am: Puzzlehunt begins
• 2:30pm: Deadline for turning in solutions
• 2:40pm: Wrap-up, Awards, Dismissal
• 3:00pm: Event tear-down

Students are encouraged to bring a bottle for water, and snacks will be available for the students during the competition. Teams will have to arrange their own transportation, and there will be a registration fee of $90 per team. This will go toward a shirt for each participant and chaperone, as well as snacks and awards. Here is the link for registration: https://goo.gl/forms/R1QKHMxJTTjJmzAl2

We have provided a "teaser" puzzle to give you a taste of the kind of mathematical challenges your teams will face on April 8. Contact me (pj.couch@lamar.edu) for more information; I hope to hear from you soon!
