Sid McGinnis

David Letterman Band Guitarist

Guitarist Sid McGinnis is best known for his work playing nightly on the CBS Late Show with David Letterman. Born in Pittsburgh, Sid began his musical career in 1970's with the burgh band "Sweet Lightning" along with singer/guitarist Pete Hewlett and drummer Ron Foster. They signed with RCA Records releasing an LP and two singles. In 1974 Sid moved to New York City where he began a career as a session player and touring artist. In the late 1970's and early 80's he recorded and toured with Dire Straits, Carly Simon, Peter Gabriel, Robert Fripp, Cher, Clarence Clemons, Melissa Manchester, John Mayhall, Ashford and Simson, and Barry Manilow.

In 1984 Sid was invited for a one night stand as guest guitarist on the David Letterman Show. He's been on the show ever since. (I think he passed the audition). In his spare time he has recorded with a who's who of the music industry including Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Paul Simon, Warren Zevon, David Lee Roth, Grover Washington Jr., Jim Weider, Simon & Garfunkle, Rachel Sweet, and more.
