Bratwurst a la Bistek Tagalog with Jalapeño Peppers

Bratwurst a la Bistek Tagalog with Jalapeño Peppers from Pinay In Texas Cooking Corner

  • 8 pcs. bratwurst, cooked accdg. to package "skillet preparation" directions and bias-sliced
  • 1/3 cup fresh lemon (or calamansi extract)
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • 2 large onions, 1 chopped and 1 sliced into rings (you can use either white or yellow onions. I used 1 red and 1 yellow)
  • 5 stalks green onions, chopped
  • 3 pcs. Jalapeño pepper, seeds removed and sliced into rings
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • salt & pepper to taste

1. Over medium heat, saute garlic in olive oil until light brown. Add bratwurst and saute for about a minute.

2. Add the chopped onions, and saute until almost translucent. Add lemon or calamansi juice, and soy sauce. Bring to a boil. Add half of the green onions. Reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for about 10 minutes. Uncover and simmer for another 3 minutes to allow the sauce to evaporate..

3. Add Jalapeño peppers and onion rings. Season with salt (if necessary) and pepper to suit your taste. Simmer while stirring until onions start to caramelized. Add remaining green onions and simmer for another minute.

4. Remove from heat. Serve with rice or rolls.
