First Annual Fun In The Sun Raffle

Communities In Schools announces its First Annual Fun In The Sun Raffle just in time for summer. It will be held on May 19, 2015. For $5.00 per ticket or 5 tickets for $20.00 you’ll get a chance to win one of TEN FANTASTIC PRIZES. All winners will be notified by CIS.

 

Ninety (90) percent of the money raised at Pasadena Memorial will stay here to help our students during the year.

 

Grand Prize is a $1,500 Vacation of Your Choice – Use this for a cruise, airline tickets, hotel stay, whatever you can imagine.  Other prizes include a $1,000 San Antonio Vacation Package at the La Cantera Hill Country Resort, $500 Moody Gardens Package, $500 Ocean Village Resort Package, $300 Schlitterbahn Family Package, $300 Astros vs Yankees Package, $250 Landry’s Family Adventure Package, $250 Bass Pro Shop Gift Card, $250 Best Buy Gift Card, and a $250 Academy and Splashway Package.

April Highlights

Author Book Signing: Pasadena Memorial CIS female students were able to meet Author Lakisha Lott- Wells and listen to her story. Wells books were given to the young ladies and also autographed. The book "Only 16" is related to many of the young girls struggle.

• College Tour: Students will attend a Community college and tour the school as well as ask questions, and become familiar with community college life. This is a good experience because many of the students do not know what community colleges offer.

• San Jacinto Mentorship Program: San Jacinto Men of Honor comes out to mentor males on life and college readiness. Students are about to ask questions and learn information that they did not know firsthand.

• Donation of hygiene products: Donation of hygiene items to give to students who may not have them at home.

• Back Pack Buddies: Every Friday at the end of school we send home a backpack full of food to several students who have a limited supply of food during the weekend. The Back Pack Buddies helps support the families that are limited income. The students have enough food to get by over the weekend and will help cure child hunger. The food in provided by the Houston Food Bank.

• School Supplies: School Supplies are provided by CIS every day for free to help students' success in the classroom. Wal-Mart donates $ 1500 of school supplies to Pasadena Memorial. Students have accesses to paper, pencils, binders, pens, composition books and more.

• Daily Lunch Groups (Male and Female) - CIS have lunch groups every day during lunch and the students choose a discussion and that is discussed during the duration of lunch. Students also work on their social skills by playing board games and cards provided by Communities in Schools

Teen Parenting Groups: Community Pregnancy Center will be provided monthly classes and Pasadena Memorial High School for our students. The class with consist of parenting skills, how to change babies, and plenty of parenting information.

• Healthy Relationships: Agape Centric Inc will be providing sessions for healthy relationships with PMHS young ladies. The Speaker will discuss what relationships are good and toxic for you.

The young ladies will be able to speak out and ask questions.

• Valentine Cards: Students made about 100 cards to a local senior citizens home during Valentines. The seniors passed out the cards during their annual Valentines party.

January Highlights

 

·         Wreath Decoration: Students made Christmas wreaths out of ornaments to take around and distribute to the senior living facilities. Students are learning to give their time to help others for the holidays.

·         Donation of hygiene products: Donation of hygiene items to give to students who may not have them at home. 

·         University of Houston Basketball Game: Students will be able to experience a live college basketball game

·         Back Pack Buddies: Every Friday at the end of school we send home a backpack full of food to several students who have a limited supply of food during the weekend.
