Great site on feeding parrots: "Got Chop" campaign by Patricia Sund

A very nutritious and easy to make bird bread recipe is as follows: Buy a box of Jiffy Corn Meal Mix. Follow the directions on the box for corn meal bread, but add the following: 3 extra eggs (shell and all), 1 well cooked, mashed or pureed sweet potato, zucchini or any other fresh veggie at hand, pieces of fruit, raisins, and some applesauce. Seed and nuts are optional according to the species of bird. After the bread is cooled, slice and serve part. Refrigerate or freeze the rest for later use.

Raw & cooked recipes along with making your own pellets:

Birdie beta carotene balls by Pennywise Parrots
Two large sweet potatoes
One package of baby carrots
1.5 cups pellets
1 cup sliced almonds
2 large orange bell peppers
Handful of dried red peppers
A bowl of oatmeal ( uncooked)
2 cups pre-prepared quinoa and collared greens
In large pot bring water to a boil. Scrub carrots and sweet potatoes and chop into big chunks. Add to boiling water and cook until a fork will pierce them( about 15 minutes) place a wooden spoon over your pot to prevent the water from bubbling over the top- it really works! During this time, used a mini food processor or a blender to chop up the pellets, sliced almonds, and both the fresh orange peppers and the dried red peppers. (Added the prepared mixture of quinoa and collared greens into a large bowl and added all chopped stuff on top.) Drained the potatoes and carrots, and started smashing them with a potato smasher. Added all the dry ingredients into the pot, mixed it up. And then rolled the warm mixture into little balls, rolled them in a bowl of uncooked oats, and let them sit until cooled enough to sit. Put half the mixture in a large Tupperware for later.
