Wellington Event to Support Breast Cancer Research

2008 Pink Ribbon Motorcycle Charity Event

We are very proud to announce the 2008 Pink Ribbon Motorcycle Charity Ride and motorbike fun day hosted by Wellington branch on Sunday 12th October 2008.

On Sunday 12 October come along to Te Whaea - National School of Dance and Drama Top Carpark (follow the signs to 'Hospital Parking') Hutchinson Rd, Newtown (Off John Street)  between 10.00am and 3.00pm to support fund raising for the Pink Ribbon appeal, helping women fight breast cancer. Whether you have a friend, mum, aunt, grandma, cousin or sister who has been affected or is at risk or you just want to support a good cause, head on down!

Scooterazzi and 0800 MOPEDS will be offering scooter test rides for $10 a turn (all proceeds to the appeal), there will be safety advice, raffles, motorcycle gear, bikes and services on display, food and coffee and an information tent on breast cancer.

A ride will leave from the Te Whaea carpark at 10.30am to go to Island Bay via Adelaide Road, right around the bays including Moa Point, Shelly Bay and Oriental Parade, then up Taranaki St back to the Show Buildings. All motorcyclists – female and male riders are welcome to participate in the Pink Ribbon Motorcycle Rides and are invited and challenged to show your creative (and feminine) side by dressing in the spirit of the day (pink is the preferred accessory colour)!

Sponsors have provided some fantastic prizes for raffles and to acknowledge things like the ‘Best Dressed’ bike/rider.

Wellington ‘gold’ sponsors include: Scooterazzi and 0800 MOPEDS, TSS Motorcycles, Motomart, Streetwise driving school, RoadSafe.

Whether you are on a scooter a touring machine or something in between, come and join our ride to help raise money to support the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation. And as WIMA member Carol Spaulding says, “if you don’t have your own (two) wheels, come along to the show grounds, make a donation, see us come and go on the ride, and try out a scooter for yourself!!! We always welcome new members.”

WIMA's Wellington Branch Captain, Kate Harker, says "we are overwhelmed by the support women and men riding motorbikes, sponsors and other volunteers have provided in organising this event. We’re really looking forward to seeing other members of the community also coming along to meet the riders, have some fun and above all support this great cause".
