All events are in the hotel conference room unless noted.

Wednesday, February 22, 2017:  3 pm - set up in conference room; registration begins.  Open knitting until 10 pm.

Thursday, February 23, 2017:

8am – 10pm: Open cranking

Noon – 1pm:  lunch on your own

1 pm:  Demo –  "Beyond the Sock - a Presentation of Possibilities."  Jennifer Bremer


                                        How to approach your circular sock machine in a new and creative way. See examples of how making simple choices                               and applying  a wide array of construction and finishing techniques can expand the possibilities of what you and your                               machine can do. 
                              ****All attendees are encouraged to bring their own examples to show to the group.*****

Friday, February 24, 2017:

         8 am – 10 pm: Open cranking

            10 am:  Demo –  "Fingered Gloves"  Jamie Mayfield

                            Instead of the fingerless gloves/mitts that are popular, here is a way to make 5 fingered gloves!

            Noon: lunch on your own

            6 pm:  Group meal in conference room

            7:30 pm:  Presentation - "Ergonomics of Sock Knitting"  Georgia Majerus

Saturday, February 25, 2017:

         8 am – 10 pm: open cranking ‘till THE END

            10am:  Demo - "Red, White and Blue"  Glenace Shank

                            The set up and use of the warping board to dye yarn with stripes.  This demo will show specifics for making red,                                 white and blue socks, complete with stars.

 

Garage Sale:   each day.  Persons are responsible for their items and sales/purchases. 

SUGGESTION: Label your tools, machine, etc.  There can be lots of loaning at these events.

 

Conference general information:

We will be in the same hotel, the Ramada Ankeny , formerly the Best Western Metro North.

Hotel rooms have been reserved in a block.   Rooms available for $80 per night plus tax.  Rooms must be reserved by February 20, 2017 for this special price.  Mention ‘PIGS’ for the block rooms. You will need to make your own reservations.  The hotel has free breakfast in the diner attached.

CALL THE NUMBER ABOVE, not the 800 number.  They don't know about the block rooms and it confuses them!  When calling for a reservation, BE SURE TO STATE YOU ARE WITH PIGS and want the group rate.  If you have other discounts you could use, you can check to see what you can get for a room rate.  However, we need to rent 10 rooms each night to get the conference room at the discount price. Please keep this in mind to help us out if you would.  If you need a room mate, we can facilitate this, just let us know. 

There is no elevator in this hotel, and if you don't want stairs, request a first floor room.  There are renovated rooms (updated) and you should request one of these (in my opinion). 


We will have mentors for those who would like one.  Let us know if you would like to BE a mentor, or if you NEED a mentor.  It doubtful we can top the newbie class of 2015, but please pass the word for this opportunity for hands-on with help. Contact us at iowapigs@gmail.com

We need volunteers for demonstrations.  Also some suggestions of what you would like to see. There will be a garage sale again. We will have meal on Friday evening. Those of you with special dietary requirements should contact Lorinda Inman at lorinda.inman@gmail.com to discuss your needs.
