Picts Hill Publishing was founded in 2009 at Picts Hill just outside the town of Langport, Somerset. It is a virtual company running with modern techniques and services but without old fashioned overheads. The business is owned by Even Handed Licensing Limited a company incorporated in England at the end of the last century.
We are a multi-media publishing house and have so far completed web publishing, book publishing and two newspaper projects.
The central philosophy of the company is to undertake media projects with a strong community connection. We believe that there is a strong market for local focus in publishing. Ironically, the internet that has linked us together globally, has also changed our work and living habits. We are more plugged into our communities, we are more aware of our surroundings. Yet much of the media content we have access to is managed and run by global corporations with little or no, local connection, even when they aspire to publish local materials.
Local newspapers are the worst examples of this. Most of the Somerset press is owned nationally or internationally. Here are some examples:
Western Gazette - owner the Daily Mail and General Trust plc - London
Blackmore Vale - owner the Daily Mail and General Trust plc - London
Chard & Ilminster News - owner the Gannet Co Inc of the USA
Bridgwater Mercury - owner the Gannet Co Inc of the USA
Somerset County Gazette - owner the Gannet Co Inc of the USA
