We need some used paddles to have on hand when we have new players come by to try out the game. If you have one & would like to donate it just drop it by the courts any day. These will be kept in the storage container on the White Mountain courts. Thanks for your help.

Ruidoso Greeters came for a ribbon cutting on the newly painted White Mountain pickleball courts 8/30/12
City workers painted four courts with red strips & four courts with blue strips. They look great!
We played on them Friday(7/13/12) for the first time. On the east side of the pickleball courts is a large medal box that belongs to Ruidoso Pickleball. It holds the portable nets & balls. A key lock is on the box and any paid member is welcome to have a key. Just email or call Leanne Smith leannesmith60@gmail.com or 575-937-0019.
Pickleball is alive in Ruidoso!!!!
Grand Opening of the White Mountain Courts
Andy Carter was instrumental in negotiating with the city & the local tennis group to get these eight courts painted for Pickleball. Thank you, Andy
Pickleball started in Ruidoso...
Gary Beatty started Pickleball in Ruidoso in 2009. His wife Gay was the bookkeeper. They handled all of duties of running the Ruidoso Pickleball Club from teaching, court maintenance, cleanup, welcoming committee & providing pickleball supplies. When Gary first tried sharing his passion for the game in Ruidoso in 2009, he had 8-10 people who shared his enthusiasm for the game. In 2010, the family of pickleballers grew to 66 paid members. In 2011 the number of paid members grew to 78. With many more trying the sport or traveling to Ruidoso on vacation to play Pickleball.
Gary also inspired four players to become USAPA Ambassadors in their hometowns. Kai Brown in Lincoln County, NM, Vicky Noakes in the Greater Oklahoma City Area, Marshal Pura in Los Angeles, & Bill McGaughey in Horseshoe Bay/Marble Falls, TX. They are all helping to promote the spread of Pickleball.
In 2012 Gary decided to move on and share his enthusiasm with others in a new location. We appreciate him introducing this new sport to us & providing us with a new addiction. We welcome the two of them back anytime.
Some of the original members in 2009 at right: Christa Lovett, Gay Beatty,Vicky Noakes, Ora Marie Templeton, Deanna Lattari, Nancy Knox, & Maurice Lattari
Gary tried to bring pickleball to Ruidoso for several years
with not much success. In 2009 thanks to Ora Marie Templeton, she suggested
playing on the private Dupont court that is located at the corner of Cree
Meadows & Hull road. Ora Marie had access to court due to her friendship
with Margaret DuPont.
DuPont was a
world-class tennis player with many titles in singles, mixed doubles and
women's doubles in all the majors at the French and U.S. Opens and Wimbledon.
Her husband wouldn't let her go to the Australian, because he said it was too
far away. She played from the late 1930s until the early '60s.
Dupont moved to
Ruidoso in the mid-1960s and built the first tennis court in town. She died at age 94 in El Paso.
