Question and Answer

Are you a yoga teacher struggling to make sense of anatomy?

Do you need help understanding how the body works and how yoga helps?

Would you like to learn more about dealing safely and positively with common problems such as ‘bad backs’, sciatica, stiff shoulders, ‘dodgy knees’, what is a rotator cuff injury and can yoga help? etc. 

Help is now at hand in the form of Question and Answer sessions. These sessions have proven so helpful and informative that they have now become a regular event in central Sheffield for yoga teachers and student teachers.  The meetings are every 3-4 months, on a Saturday morning, 10 - 1pm. 

They represent an invaluable opportunity to develop your understanding of the structural anatomy of asana and also to investigate practical solutions to common physical problems which crop up in any yoga class.  The sessions are highly practical. We work on the mat throughout, in order to get a physical as well as an intellectual understand of what is being discussed.

The subjects covered are based on participants’ own questions.  Discussion is encouraged and the more enquiring your mind, the more you will get out of it!  From a packed 3 hour session you will take away ideas that you can apply immediately to your own personal practice and integrate into your teaching.

I made an innocent comment to a fellow yoga teacher a few years ago: ‘If there is anything I can do to help with anatomy training for yoga teachers in the region, do let me know’. Ten years later, I am still running quarterly Question and Answer sessions, based totally on what teachers want to know. 

These are half day sessions, usually on a Saturday, held three or four times a year and are attended by teachers, student teachers and increasingly by massage therapists and personal trainers. But anyone with an active interest in anatomy and yoga is very welcome. Armed with laptop computer, tea, flapjacks and a large helping of humour, we have a lot of fun too.
