  • Mountain Run Feb 8 @ 9 AM Hi Runners and hikers.  On  Feb. 8th we are planning a run in the mountains. A 9 am starting time lets the morning warm a bit.  I am looking at an out and back on the Pine Valley end of Noble Canyon. This is a National Recreational Trail, and an area we haven't run. 90 to 120 minutes. Directions:  8 east to 79 toward Julian, go straight towards Guatay and Pine Valley. The trail head is on Pine Creek Road near Pine Valley. Watch for left turn onto Pine Creek Road to a Developed Trailhead and parking.

  • Julian Run - Jan 10 Hi PHHS runners, families and friends of PHHS. On January 10, at 9:00 in the morning, we are holding a run in the mountains from Jim and Lisa's under construction house in Cuyamaca Woods. Directions to follow. The run will be an out and back on Engineers Road. This is a hill climb run, offering a nearly 4 mile blacktop road climb through Cuyamaca Woods. There is also a rolling hill hard dirt /gravel road run that can be chosen.After returning to our start point, Jim and Lisa's house, we will have a picnic lunch, ( please bring what you want to eat for your lunch and something to share)  To share items like fruit, chips and ...

  • Julian Pie Run - Dec 27 Hi PHHS runners,  families,  and friends of PHHS!On Saturday, December 27, at 9 am  (right after Christmas),  we are holding an optional run on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). After the run, all who are interested and also  like PIE, will go to Julian, and have all the PIE they can eat. We have done this winter "PIE  Run" for years, and are happy to continue the tradition.The run will be from PIONEER MAIL trail head, with access to the PCT. We will run north on this  out and back run of 60 to 90 minutes (or longer if athletes stay in pairs). This is a mountain trail, single track with amazing vistas. Well worth the trip to ...

  • PHHS Announces to XC Coaches Patrick Henry Cross Country 2014 Press Release – New Coaches   McDuffrie Allen Head Coach Coach Allen joins the Patrick Henry Cross Country coaching staff this fall after a career in the Marines where he worked as a Logistics Specialist for the DOD and competed in events from the 200 meters up to the 5000 meters. Father to three boys and two girls, Coach Allen has worked with youth, young adults, and adults for over thirty years. He has coached two Junior National Champions in the 800/400, one country champion, two state champions, and two Masters’ National Champions.   • July 19, 7 am: Fun Run in Cuyamaca Mountains Dear Athletes, Families, and Friends of PHHS Cross Country,PHHS runners and families are invited to a fun run in the Cuyamaca Mountains on the Pacific Crest Trail on Saturday, July 19th.  We are meeting at 7 am at the Pedro Fages Monument on S1, Sunrise Highway. (Click on the link for a Google map of the location.)To get there, go east on I-8, then take CA-79 North toward the park, go about 1 mile past Lake Cuyamaca, then turn right  on S1 (Sunrise Highway) continuing until you get  to the small gravel parking area at the Monument on the left. XC Cross Country running is a sport in which runners compete to complete a course over open or rough terrain.  It started as a sport at Rugby School in England  in 1837...

500 years  earlier, there were the famous Chasquis, highly trained runners delivering messages and packages across the vast Inca empire.

And don’t forget  Pheidippides, who ran 160 miles over the course of two days from Athens to Sparta announcing the Persian landing at Marathon in 490 BC.
