FROM PERICLES MENESES

I am so happy to find that the flame of "55" is still burning. And I  remember Artemio writing "Go forth : yours is to continue, not to lie and rest." And that has always been and will always be.

Mario and Marion (my brother and sister-in-law 55er) gave me the web sites of the class.  I have been away for so long and, not having been back so often, I fear being too long out of touch. Let me put you up to date.   Since I left the
Philippines, I have been to the University of  Virginia (USA), the University of Nancy (France) and the School of Mines (France) for my degrees : two doctorates in Solid State Physics and in Materials Science.

Joining the CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research) where I pursued my whole career in research, I taught at the same time in the School of Mines and at the University of Nancy, later in the University of Metz and finally in the School of Physics in Grenoble.  For the last ten years of my activity, I also served as a member of the French National Committee for Scientific Research.

That's about it ....and I am retired since January 2005.  But I was asked to continue serving Franceas a Commissioner for Public Inquiries. This keeps me still on my toes.

Married to Huguette (retired Urbaniste) and four children : Jean-Marie, 27, Engineer ; Alexandra, 25, MD Rheumatology ; Alexis, 24, Engineer and Efie, 21, Engineering student at the School ofMines.

I gathered a few photographs taken around the end of 2004 and early 2005 to coincide with the 50 years of PHS55.
