William Stukeley

(7 November 1687 – 3 March 1765)

* Rollover to 9 November may be possible.
This commemoration will repeat on 2 -4 March 2018

"Stukeley was an English antiquary and one of the founders of field archaeology, who pioneered the investigation of Stonehenge."
(BBC History)

Stukeley was most likely the first person to propound the idea that Stonehenge was bulit by and for Druids in the 5th Century. This is incorrect, but the idea was perpetuated in the late 19th Century and especially in the 1970s Hippie Era.
