23 April - GB0StG - St George's Day
Phoenix ARC commemorated St George's Day on 23 April with GB0StG, from Harby in the Vale of Belvoir in Leicestershire (NG/WAB SK73).
The location was the Harby Allotments (the Allotment Shed of Brian M0YBX) as part of the Sheds, Allotments and Green Houses On The Air (SAGHOTA) programme. The astronomer Sir Harold Jeffreys (b. 22 April) was also commemorated. 23 April 2016 was also the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare.

Phoenix ARC participated in the British Science Association Science in the Park at Wollaton Hall, Nottingham on 19th March demonstrating a Tesla Discharge Coil and various scientific aspects connected to radiocommunications to around 7600 visitors.
The 2016 UNESCO-sponsored World Radio Day was 13 February, with many events spilling over to 14th February. Phoenix ARC was on air with the callsigns MX0PHX and MX0YHA to raise awareness of the WRD.
WRD reminds us that terrestrial radio still has a major social and cultural value, and a means of disseminating news an information, in many parts of the world. And it encourages links between broadcasters. It also aimed to raise a greater awareness of the need to maintain emergency frequencies for use in times of emergency - something that is highly relevant to amateur radio users.
WRD also coincided with British Scientists Amateur Radio Award joint commemoration of the explorer and botanist Joseph Banks and distinguished Scottish surgeon and scientist John Hunter (link).

A Youth Hostels Amateur Radio Group event
From 10 to 30 June MX0YHA was on air from Gargrave in the county of Yorkshire, which is in the ancient Barony of Skipton. Skipton Castle was the seat of the de Forz family (also referred to as Fortibus) in the early 13th century. Willaim de Forz was, of course, one of the barons who signed the 1215 Magna Carta. A full report on the MX0YHA Magna Carta activity is available >here<
For this event, contacts were able to download a special QSL Certificate in lieu of a traditional QSL card and print it at a size of their choice, from postcard size up to A4. This Certificate is no longer available to download, but it is available on request.
