nVidia binary drivers on Fedora Core 5

To install drivers for your nVidia video card, go through following steps.

Open terminal and type the following (Applications->Accessories->Terminal):

su

yum -y update kernel

Reboot your mashine here, and then continue:

su

rpm -Uvh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-5.rpm

yum -y install kmod-nvidia

setsebool -P allow_execstack=1

setsebool -P allow_execmod=1

init 3  (NOTE: You will exit the graphical environment, so print the following out, or write down to the paper)

Login as root, then:

nvidia-config-display enable

reboot

Your mashine will reboot, and you'll be able to work again graphically. Now just check if drivers are correctly installed, and used by system. In terminal:

su

gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Find there Driver "nvidia" or Driver "nv" string. If there is Driver "nv" string, then change it to "nvidia". Find then Load "dri" string and delete it, also in the same section should be Load "glx", it should be in there.

If you changed something, then save and exit, then reboot.

Open up terminal, and type this:

glxinfo | grep direct

If you get answer "yes", then everything is ok. Also try this:

glxgears

Your fps should be 1000+. It mostly depends on your video hardware.
