I am an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. I teach courses including statistics, calculus, mathematical reasoning, and geometry. My research training is in differential geometry and global analysis, and I have broad interests in geometry, topology, analysis, and applied math.
I have mentored undergraduate students in research projects in a variety of areas, including topology, discrete geometry and the Erdös distance problem, and mathematical modeling of the death and preservation of indigenous languages in Mexico. Here is a recent student's online portfolio showcasing her research: Topology of the Universe (Alexandra Cardoso Garcia).
I like math when it makes sense, and I believe anyone can have a positive experience with math. I enjoy helping students make sense out of math and apply math in sometimes unexpected ways*. I am a member of the Triangle Math Teachers' Circle, and I enjoy guiding students and teachers in community-building activities such as Julia Robinson Mathematics Festivals. Ask me about the Canaday Math & Computer Science Club and the Vivian Kraines Mathematics Competition for first- and second-year students!
