Why You Should Support Our Organization

The Philadelphia Chess Society (PCS) is dedicated to bringing 40 Philadelphia scholastic chess players to the U.S. Scholastic Chess Championship ("Supernationals V") in Nashville, TN, April 4-7, 2013.

The inaugural PCS travel team features inner city youth from 5 different clubs and at least a dozen Philadelphia area schools, ranging from 7-17 years old. Our total cost estimate is $23,500. We began with a keychain fundraiser in December.

The Philadelphia Chess Society travel roster includes 6 players with SuperNationals experience, including

  • Paul Robeson Chess Club star Tomyra, aka "The Viper”, who finished 12th in the nation as a 3rd grader at SuperNationals IV in 2009
  • Angelo Dellomargio (Academy at Palumbo H.S./Bella Vista Chess Club), ranked in the top 4% of junior chess players in the U.S. and 2012 Rentschler High School Under 1600 Champion
  • Alex Wallace (Academy at Palumbo H.S./Bella Vista CC), ranked in the top 10% of junior chess players in the U.S. and 2010 PA State Scholastic Bughouse Champion.
