# required knowledge: 1. Descriptive Paragraphs  2. What is an essay?
# typical organization and elements:
1. Introduction: 
a. the hook: introducing the object or event in the description and gets the reader's attention.
b. background information:  
c. the thesis statement: telling the reader why the object described is important to the writer. 
2. Body Paragraphs:
a. Most of the description is in the body paragraphs.
b. Using a lot of adjectives and adverbs to make the description vivid.
c. Prepositions and prepositional phrases are often used to specify certain locations or positions in space.
d. Comparisons, such as similes, are often used to make the description more expressive.   
3. Conclusion: often including the writer's final thought about the item described
