The course, which includes lectures, group work and data labs will provide knowledge and skills on how to conduct register-based research across the Nordic countries. A wide range of national and regional data sources available on drug dispensing, health outcomes and socioeconomic status and will be presented and so will the processes, when linking data from various sources. The participants will be trained in research methodology, how to perform register-based research, how to plan and carry out Nordic multi-country studies including legal aspects as well as research ethics. The course faculty consists of Nordic and International researchers and teachers having comprehensive experience with epidemiological methods and with register-based research. The course is open for PhD students and junior researchers from all the Nordic countries. Students from outside the Nordic countries can also apply.

"Kombinera data från flera datakällor:  meta-analys jämfört med att poola data"

Combining multiple health care databases from different countries is valuable when analysing rare exposures and outcomes in pharmacoepidemiology. Multi-database studies, however, pose several challenges with regard to data management and analysis.
Experience from the CARING (CAncer Risk and INsulin analoGues) project is presented. In this project, data from national health registers in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden were combined with data from the United Kingdom Clinical Practice Research Datalink.
We describe how the use of a common data model facilitates the use data from different countries with different drug and diagnosis code systems. We also compare different analytic approaches: pooled individual-level data analysis and country-level aggregate meta-analysis, and discuss when these methods are best used.
