PghMixed leadership is seeking previous experience coaching and/or playing, preferably in mixed or high-level knowledge that can be applied to mixed. I HEARD SOME CLUBS ARE SKIPPING 2021, WHAT’S PghMixed PLANNING?

We're prioritizing:

  • a) the safety of both our ultimate family as well as our greater Pittsburgh community

  • b) retaining/building the community of pghmixed - new and returning athletes

  • c) helping folks achieve their personal goals for ultimate this year

We believe that if we prioritize A and B now, we will have a better chance to achieve C, which includes competing for many of us.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ALLOY, CRUCIBLE, AND I79 THIS YEAR?

We can't answer that yet. All of our leaders have agreed that PghMixed is more important as a complete family unit than the individual teams or team names. We want to find homes for everyone interested in playing mixed club this season and help the most people achieve their goals for this summer.

Alloy, Crucible, and/or I79 MAY exist this summer but look different than in the past or may take a gap year and return in 2022. PghMixed plans to have teams of athletes, but very likely with different structuring than in 2019.

WHEN WILL IT BE SAFE TO PLAY?

Beating the pandemic means seeing covid vaccines reach all of our neighbors – in hardest hit areas especially – to reduce transmission. We are looking for local case rates to persistently decline and test rate positivity stay below 5%. We are also keep tabs on Pittsburgh Ultimate's updates and decisions.

WHAT WILL THE SEASON LOOK LIKE IF IT’S SAFE TO PLAY?

It depends when we start; we’d love to begin tryout practices in June, and will keep in touch about our expectations. PghMixed is not planning any travel requiring flights this summer, but we’re optimistic about creating competition close to home for folks who are interested (including potentially joining the fall club championship series which mayyy require flights...!).

HOW DO I COMMUNICATE WITH OTHER FOLKS INTERESTED IN PghMixed?

Everyone is welcome to join the GroupMe for the Preseason. We can use that as a place to coordinate workouts, throwing buddies, additional training, social events, discussion about the rules and ultimate landscape, etc.
