Bonjour !

In France, rules of polite civility are very important!  The French make a distinction between conversing in a formal (polite) style and speaking in a more informal (casual) tone. Before speaking, you must determine whether formal (vous) or informal (tu) discourse is more appropriate. Always greet someone with his/her name or title (Madame, Monsieur, etc.), and use the appropriate greeting gesture.

TITRES:
Monsieur (M.)

Madame (Mme)
Mademoiselle (Mlle)

Madame is used for married women and for unmarried women "of a certain age" (30+?)
