Lunana: Journey through a Hidden Land

This collection of portrait photographs and interviews is the outcome of a two month journey on foot with yaks and horses over 5,000 meter Himalayan passes to Lunana – the remote “dark” region of Bhutan. It is home for nomadic yak herders and ancient pre-Buddhist bon customs threatened by a triad of social, economical and environmental changes that are opening up the lives of the local people - particularly the youth - to new perspectives and challenges that will change their world forever; if a glacial lake at the head of their valley that is on the brink of bursting doesn’t do it first.
