University Related Teaching & Technical Skills

  • Teaching practical geology introductory courses (crystallography, crystal chemistry, mineralogy and rocks (optical polarisation microscopy) to science students (geology, geography, biology and bio-engineer) in the Bachelor grade;
  • Supervising “Master” students in the geochemistry lab facilities & extraction equipment: a computer operated carbonate sampling (µm scale) microscope (Merchantek Micromill); an automated carbonate dissolution device (Kiel III) and mass spectrometers (Finnigan MAT Delta E & TermoQuest Delta Plus XL);   
  • Micro palaeontological extraction techniques based on hydrofluoride acids and the use of a Scanning Electron Microscope;
  • Geological mapping (Stereoplot);
  • Excepted participant to training courses in: Negotiation Techniques, Photoshop, Acrobat.


Private Company Related Teaching - Technical Skills & Courses

  • DEME NV, BelgiumTeaching at company entry level (DEME NV): introductory courses on rock cycle, BH-techniques, sample techniques and soil investigations in general;
  • Geological 3D Modelling with RockWorks 15;
  • Experience with on- (CPT-equipment, different types of drilling machines) and near shore (barges, self elevated platforms and coring vessels) geotechnical ground investigations and data management (Bricscad, Surfer & gINT);
  • Soil remediation / reclamation requirements (compaction tests, densities, vibroflotation);
  • Sand search actions (piston sampling, vibrocores, seismic reflection/refraction);
  • In-Situ testing (Standard Penetration Test, (Piezo)Cone Penetration Test, Vane Shear Test);
  • Soil and rock lab testing (sieve analysis, Atterberg Limits, point load test, Uniaxial Compression Strength, Tensile Strength);
  • Environmental monitoring (piezometers), organizing info sessions for the commercialization and implementation of the Membrane Interface Probe (trained by Geoprobe Belgium).

    • The Management of Health & Safety within Off Shore Dredging & Reclamation Works, approved and validated by the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOHS). DEME NV, Belgium. Passed exam (12/2012);

    • Post Academic Training: “Geofysische bodemsensoren voor archeologische prospectie” (Geophysical Soil Sensors for Archaeological Prospection), Onderzoeksgroep Ruimtelijke Bodeminventarisatietechnieken (Orbit), Instituut voor  Permanente Vorming, Ghent University, Zwijnaarde, Belgium. (2012);

    • Initiator and organiser of the Socotra Karst Project: leading 9 expeditions with a total of 40 different participants from 6 nationalities (2000-2009); 
    • Organising excursions related to geology, karst and cave formations as coordinator of the scientific committee of the Flemish caving union;
    • Single Rope Techniques training (basic (1991), advanced (1992) and expedition rescue (2000)), First Aid (Leuven, 1993), Safety Certificate for Operators (Haacht, 2007), CPR (Dubai, 2008), Basic Offshore Safety Introduction & Emergency Response Training -Falck Nutec NOGEPA and HUET training (Rotterdam, 2010);
    • GPS training and the use of OziExplorer (Dinant, 2006) and Cave mapping software (Survex, Onstation and Compass).
