Race Report – Points Series

posted 2 Sep 2017, 01:23 by Perth Sailing Club

The Points series of races continued on Saturday evening with nine boats out in the slight westerly breeze. All boats got away to a clean start with the Albacore (Mirage) of John Ferguson crewed by Sandy Rodger in the lead followed by Eric Taylor in his newly painted Phantom (Cormorant) sporting a PT boat colour scheme. Peter Bevan (Marsh Daisy) was in third place on lap one followed closely by Andrew Porteous (Whooper) and Ian Noble (laser) making his first appearance on the water this year. John & Sandy (Mirage) increased their lead throughout the race. Leonie Poor (Emmental) retired after two laps. Audrey Robertson (Whiz) and Brian Thorburn & Gillie Amatt in the Wanderer were having a close race at the back of the fleet and Bill Inches (Hellespont) managed a fourth place after handicap beating Ian Noble into fifth place. The second race of the day was abandoned shortly after the start as the wind had died completely. Thanks to Jack Douglas and Jim Galloway who provided Rescue cover and to the Race Officer of the Day covered by Vicky Wright.
