Eight boats took part in the downriver race on Sunday morning for the Millhurst Race sailing downriver to where the Earn meets the Tay and back upriver again. The wind was south westerly and variable, force 3 gusting 4 at times then dropping to force 1-2, but picking up again towards Sleepless Inch and increasing to force 5 and gusting towards the finish. The start was delayed a few minutes to allow all boats to launch after which they made a good start on a broad reach with all boats bunched together until the first bend downriver. Grant Williamson in a Laser and Euan Macdonald in his Aero 7 began to draw ahead while the Miracle helmed by Peter Bevan and crewed by Anna and Eve and that of Doug Ogilivie, crewed by Vicky Wright fell slightly behind. As the wind dropped round the bend, all boats began to struggle against the strong incoming tide, but the Miracle of Peter and the girls managed to catch up the main fleet leaving Doug and Vicky to bring up the rear. As they approached the Millhurst mark, the Albacore of Andrew Porteous, crewed by daughter Gilly began to nose ahead, but Bob Watson in his Laser had the right of water at the mark and rounded first closely followed by Andrew and Gilly, then Euan, Hunter and Grant. Andrew pulled ahead once again as they returned back upriver ahead of Bob with Hunter in 3rd position. These boats all managed to pull ahead of the rest of the fleet on the beat back home with the wind increasing and becoming more gusty as the finish approached. Andrew and Gilly led the fleet home, sitting out hard at times. Bob capsized, but recovered quickly with Ian Noble following suit! Peter, Anna and Eve sailing very well indeed finished eleven seconds ahead of Hunter on corrected time with Andrew and Gilly another twenty-two seconds behind in third position.
