The Perpetual Motion Suzuki Strings Biography


The Perpetual Motion Suzuki Strings are a group of 25+ violin students ages 3 to 18. Their widely varied repertoire includes classical pieces by composers such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Handel, and Brahms; as well as holiday music, bluegrass, and folk songs from around the world. The group performs solo and ensemble concerts under the direction of James Hutchins. 


The Perpetual Motion Suzuki Strings perform frequently in the Greater Washington Area. The group has performed twice at the White House. The later performance was for former First Lady/Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the official opening of the White House for the holiday season. Other concerts by the studio include: featured performers with the National Symphony Orchestra for a family concert, The Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center, at City Hall in Reykjavik, Iceland, The National Zoo, the National Aquarium, the grounds  of the Lincoln Memorial, and on the steps of the U.S. Capitol and in the dome of the Maryland State Capitol. The group has also performed the National Anthem before a Washington Nationals, Washington Wizards, Baltimore Orioles, Washington Freedom,  Bowie Baysox ,Frederick Keys, and Potomac Nationals games and enjoyed serenading residents of nursing and retirement homes. Students have played at The Kennedy Center, DAR Constitution Hall, Strathmore, and Carnegie Hall. In addition, members of the group have performed on cable/satellite television, radio and for commercials, in local youth orchestras, documentaries, and for weddings and other social occasions. 


Studio members perform at workshops and Suzuki institutes throughout the United States and Canada. The group also recorded a CD at the XM Satellite Radio Studios in Washington, DC.

 

About the Teacher




James Hutchins lives in Silver Spring, Maryland, with his wonderful and gorgeous wife, his fabulous and entertaining son and his new and amazing foster child. He grew up in the Suzuki Method, has been a Suzuki teacher for over 25 years and is a proud Suzuki dad. James is a registered teacher trainer who has taught at workshops, institutes and classes around the world, including South Korea, Iceland, Peru, Lithuania, Singapore, Malaysia, Bermuda, the Bahamas and throughout the states.


James also had the honor of performing for Dr. and Mrs. Suzuki at their home in Japan.
