Tamil Encyclopaedia

Thooran was also the chief editor of the 7500 page, 10 volume Tamil encyclopaedia project. This was the first complete encyclopaedia for any Indian language.  Tamil Virtual university has scanned and hosted the 'Kalaikalanjiam' online.

In the past, the only way you could access Thooran's compositions was to visit him at his Adyar residence and collect them in person. Usually visiting artists would sing for him and they were joyous occasions perhaps described by Wordsworth's 'The music in my heart I bore, long after I heard it no more'. At that time Thooran had published four volumes and the editions were made available only to interested artists. We would like to continue that tradition in a small way : We could mail you a copy of 'Navamani Isai Malai' to a postal address in India at no charge.
