SAVE WALTON LANE CEMETERY LODGE
On December 2, 2019, the Nelson Area Committee rejected Pendle Borough Council's recommendation to mark Walton Lane Cemetery Lodge (Grade II Listed building) "surplus to requirements", to enable it to be sold.
Instead, the Committee voted to recommend Pendle Borough Council's Policy & Resources Committee to demolish the building, to make room for more burial plots.
Local MP, Andrew Stephenson also supported the campaign.
An online petition was started here:
Local residents are outraged at the decision of Nelson Area Committee, led by Cllr Mohammed Iqbal, and have organised a campaign to save it.https://www.facebook.com/SaveWaltonLaneLodge/
At the Pendle Borough Council Policy & Resources Committee meeting on 16th January, 2020, the Councillors voted NOT to demolish the Cemetery Lodge.
The Lodge has been saved, for now.
