For years, Pencils! Writing Workshop has become a vibrant place in which to get inspired, share your work, get feedback, and get motivated. It's also a place where writers - typically very isolated people in many respects - get a chance to socialize with like minds.
Pencils! Members create in a variety of styles and genres: there are poets, children's writers, sci-fi and fantasy wizards, short and flash fiction jotters, novelists, freelance article scribblers and newspaper and business aficionados, even the occasional photographer. We embrace all types of written work. . .all we ask is an open ear, an open mind, and a sensitive ear toward constructive (not destructive) criticism - as well as the ability to accept criticism for the intent of improving your work, for continuing to grow.
While we no longer meet regularly, we want to continue the spirit of Pencils through a virtual writing group. As we go through our renaissance, we encourage you to be part of our journey. Please sharpen your pencils and check us out!
NEW! MANUSCRIPT FORMATTING GUIDELINES
We are now following a uniform manuscript format -- it not only allows everyone to properly gauge reading time, but also puts us all in the frame of mind for submitting. Our guidelines are as follows:
1" margins (top, bottom and sides) 12-pt. Times New Roman font Double-spaced Page numbers plus name of piece and your name on all pages
We also request that you bring 10 copies of your work to each meeting.
All comments from other members will be returned to you so
you have a record of comments and edits to take home.
