Ride Route Description

Pedal on Parliament – Inverness – 22 April 2017

Departing Bellfield Park at 11:30 and riding to Highland Council HQ, Glenurquhart Road

 Detailed Route Guide

We will assemble at Bellfield Park on Haugh Road.  Start time is 11:30 so please arrive well before that to allow people to get organized, form up, and chat to fellow cyclists.

Depending on numbers on the day, we may phase the departure at short intervals to make things easier at junctions.

Remember the aim of the ride is to increase the visibility of cycling in Inverness, so we are not in a hurry.

Please also remember that this ride is a peaceful demonstration of our right to ride. We do not intend to cause unnecessary disruption to other traffic, or to disobey any of the rules of the road. Please respect this.  There are no marshals, no road closures or any other traffic management. You are responsible for your own behavior and your own safety at all times. The notes appearing below are intended to assist anyone unfamiliar with the route but are advisory only.

 Off We Go!

Cross Haugh Road at the pedestrian crossing and head towards the town center on National Cycle Network (NCN) Route 78, Haugh Road.

Fork left onto Castle Road and ride alongside the river to the traffic lights at the junction with Bridge Street.

Turn left at the traffic lights, cross Ness Bridge, and then turn left again – along Ness Walk.

Once you pass Eden Court, turn right into Bishop’s Road and then right again into the large car park behind Highland Council HQ. Cross the car park and turn right along the front of the council offices to the main entrance where there’ll be a few words and photos.

When the organisers tell you, retrace your route back to Ness Walk.  The ride will end with music, songs and a few words from the organisers and local politicians.

Ring your bells loudly – and have fun!

A bit extra for cyclists who are confident in heavy traffic

Cross Haugh Road at the pedestrian crossing and head towards the town center on National Cycle Network (NCN) Route 78, Haugh Road.

Cross straight over onto Bank Street.  Follow the road round to the right into Friars’ Lane and up to the traffic lights at the T-junction with Academy Street.

Turn right and ride along Academy Street to Falcon Square.

Turn right into the pedestrianized area in Inglis Street.  Please dismount as there’ll be lots of pedestrian shoppers about.

Turn right into High Street.  This’ll be an ideal place to ring your bell and hand out flyers!

At the end of High Street cross carefully into Bridge Street and ride down the traffic lights at Ness Bridge.

Cross the bridge and stay on Tomnahurich Street until you reach the Council HQ on your left in Glenurquhart Road.

Join the riders on the main route for the rest of the ride back to Ness Bank.
