Universal Screening is used to determine a student's level of profiency in key academic areas, specifcally reading and mathematics. It not only shows how effective and cohesive a school's core curriculum, it also identifies students who are not making adequate progress within that core curriculum.
Universal Screening is designed to make sure that all students in the general education classroom are receiving appropriate instruction by qualified personnel. Most Universal Screeners are Curriculum Based Measures (CBM) meaning that they assess curriculum, not programs.
