Abstract
The Halstead-Reitan Trail Making Test (rTMT) has been a widely
used neuropsychological test which measures divided attention, re-
sponse speed, and cognitive flexibility. This study examined similar-
ity of the paper and pencil rTMT and the computerized Psychology
Experiment Building Language Trail Making Test (pTMT). College
students (N = 65) and older adults (N =15) completed both the pTMT
and the rTMT with the order randomized. The time to complete Part A
showed a moderately high correlation (r = 0.69, p < .0005) across test
versions. The correlation for time to complete Part B was lower but
still significant (r = 0.46, p < .0005). Overall, these finding are
supportive of the criterion validity of the pTMT in this sample but
also that the pTMT offers some methodological improvements over
the rTMT.
