Chapter History

In 1973, sorors of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., residing in the Bergen County area, conceived the idea that a chapter should be established in the area.  Sorors Susan Blakely, Marie I. DeYampert, and Katherine N. Riddick felt there was a great need for an organization of this caliber in Bergen County.  Finally, on February 14, 1981, these sorors along with Sorors Olene Ashley, Gloria Howard, Elnora C. Smith, and Mary Ennon met with Dr. Juanita High, Eastern Regional Director, to formulate plans for establishing a chapter.  On June 27, 1981, the pledge group for Delta Nu Chapter was officially organized by Dr. High.  Materials to be learned were distributed, fundraising plans were made, meeting dates were set, and the excitement of planning for September 19th chartering began.  The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Delta Nu chapter was chartered on September 19, 1981 as the 27th chapter in the Eastern Region with 14 members.  Delta Nu Chapter has been involved in Bergen and Passaic counties for over 32 years.
