Classroom Updates for April 15-18

Week of April 15th:

Writing: We will continue to practice writing in our journals by exploring various topics given a sentence starter. Students will be required to finish the sentence and write another sentence on the same topic. We will focus on writing complete sentences. Students will be expected to use capitals at the beginning of each new sentence, punctuation at the end of each sentence, and order the words in their sentences so that their sentences are complete thoughts.

 

Guided Reading: In reading, students will be describing the connection between two individuals, events, ideas, or pieces of information in informational texts.  Students will be tested on Tuesday, April 16th Students will also be working on the language skill of using singular and plural nouns with matching verbs in basic sentences. (ex: He hops, we hop)  Students will be tested on nouns and verbs on Tuesday April 16th.

 

Math: We will continue exploring Module 6: Place Value, Comparison, Addition and Subtraction to 100. Students will add a pair of two-digit numbers when the ones digits have a sum less than or equal to 10 and when the ones digits have a sum greater than 10 using decomposition.   Students will then add a pair of two-digit numbers when the ones digits have a sum greater than 10 with drawing.

 

Science:  Students will begin to explore our Organisms unit by learning about plants.  We will be planting seeds and learn about the plant life cycle and the parts of a plant.  We will also learn about what living things need to survive.
